Robert Machemer Foundation

The Foundation 

The Robert Machemer Foundation is a 501c3 organization created in April of 2010 by a group of former trainees and colleagues to honor the father of modern vitreoretinal surgery, our mentor, our colleague and our friend by providing funding for education, research and training to advance techniques and cures to treat diseases in this field.

The Foudation will support this mission in several ways. First, through a Machemer Fellowship, the Foundation will sponsor one fellow each year with a research scholarship to a qualifying 501c3 institutions, research grants to similarly requiring institutions, and raising funds to support shcolarships and grants for the publication of these research findings.

Finally, the Foundation will support two awards. First, a Machemer Fellow will be named each year from applicants from around the world who have shown themselves to be exceptional. The second award will be The Machemer Medal, an award given to an experienced vitreoretinal surgeon or researcher who embodies the excellence in surgery, education, research, honesty and integrity espoused by Dr. Machemer.
